For workshops where the full price is a meaningful commitment — multi-day retreats, destination workshops, anything with real upfront cost — you can require a deposit at registration and set a date for the remaining balance.
From there it runs itself. Three reminder notifications go out automatically before the due date, spaced out so the reminder isn’t a surprise. On the due date, if auto-charge is enabled, the balance charges to the payment method already on file — no invoice to send, no following up individually.
If a charge fails, there’s a 72-hour grace period before the registration cancels and the deposit is forfeited, giving the participant a real chance to update a card before losing their spot.
The deposit itself protects you against the specific risk that matters most with this kind of workshop: someone registering, changing their mind two weeks out, and leaving you with a seat that’s now too late to refill.
